da rosa
August 20, 2009
it’s only fitting that, for my birthday, i chose to go to a restaurant that carries the finest hams in the world. in fact, they have them hanging right in the window.
da rosa, a restaurant and food store located in the latin quarter of paris at 62 rue de Seine, carries spanish cured hams, which are located closer to the more expensive end of the ‘ham chain,’ if you know what i mean. that is because this is jamon iberique de bellota from the village of jabugo, spain. and some of it has been aged for three years! you can sample all of the different kinds of meats they have tapas-style, or, as i did, choose the risotto with jamon… which was delicious.
only after dinner did i wander downstairs to see the ham curing in the basement, along with their wine cellar.
don’t feel like sitting and eating? you can go and pick up such things as olive oil, caviar, foie gras, smoked salmon, chocolate etc. there too. apparently they have opened up a small second location called rosalito in the tenth arrondissement as well.
oh, and feel free to wander across the street for italian gelato as well, i mean… it’s right there.
