les glaces et sorbets

August 11, 2009

P1040169walking down the ile de saint louis this past sunday, i was taken aback by the line of people queuing up outside of every vendor that sold berthillon ice cream and sorbet.

now, i am a fan of such things, so my interest was immediately piqued.  what was this glacier shop that seemed so popular?  i come to find out that it is an old ice cream and sorbet maker who imports and uses all of the freshest ingredients (vanilla beans from cote d’ivoire etc).  one scoop of orange sanguine sorbet (blood orange sorbet) later, i understood.

ironically, the original berthillon is closed for august (an ice cream store closed during august!  how french!), so i will have to try it again. ugh!

(update: i have been told that there is an even better place, of which, i am sure, you will soon hear about)

berthillon.

scroll down for a list of ice cream flavors (there are more sorbet!).
