flower arranging is a real art form… it’s a lot harder then it looks.

.

so why not take a floral arrangement class from two very talented girls in brooklyn?

1962 paris

December 21, 2009

what amazing photographs of paris nightlife in 1962.
the last few were taken in les halles, then a large marketplace which sadly is no longer around.

a winter soup

December 21, 2009

during winter i always find myself eating a lot of soup.

homemade soups are the best, and this winter squash soup with gruyère croutons does not disappoint.

.

“in france, this soup would be prepared with a baking pumpkin, but a mixture of butternut and acorn squashes mimics the french pumpkin’s exceptional taste and texture”

the recipe.

macarons…again

December 21, 2009

.

if you’re feeling the itch to test your skills at making french macarons, hisako ogita has come out with a new book to help you do just that.

the book (or the end result) would make a great christmas gift….

or if perhaps you are looking for something a bit more holiday themed, you can make these delicious looking candy cane and eggnog macarons from tartelette:

.

p.s. terrarium ornaments from here.

(i realize i forgot to post something on the 19th… so this is that day that you get two!)

i‘ve been all over paris, and i must say, le bon marché has the best christmas ornamentsthey were all beautifully displayed on large trees and big round tables

just in case you ever need to decorate a tree in paris.

sorry about the pictures, but i had to take them with my phone.

café charlot

December 20, 2009

perhaps one of the best brunches i have had in paris goes to café charlot located just across the street from les enfants rouges, it is a very trendy and very parisian place to people watch while sitting eating your scrambled eggs with salmon, cherry tomatoes and shallots, soft chive cream cheese, french toast, fruit salad, fresh pressed juice and hot coffee… as that is the brunch special.

i could get used to that.

advent post #20

December 20, 2009

a while ago i was walking about with a friend, and we stumbled upon a giant ferris wheel… well, not so much stumbled as saw it in the distance and walked to it.

as it so happens it had just opened for the holidays… so we went.  much like the eye does for london, le grand roue has great views of paris.

it was first (or rather some sort of smaller version) built in 1900 for the world’s fair in paris, only to be taken down in 1937.  then in 2000, for the millenium celebration, it once again found a place in the jardin des tuileries and has been there off and on ever since.

a little ornamental greenery

December 18, 2009

i remember seeing wreaths made out of herbs last year at the farmers market, and thinking not only were they beautiful, but practical as well!

the herb wreaths are available from stokes farm, and they ship all over the states.

i love these wreaths featured on frolic! blog too.
